A social consultancy focusing on charities, social enterprises and female entrepreneurs

Deepali Nangia, founded Empowera social consultancy focusing on charities, social enterprises and female entrepreneurs, in May 2012.

Nangia was born and brought up in Kolkatta, India being a daughter of a businessman who was an entrepreneur in his head but a philanthropist at heart. So she left home at eighteen and went to University in the US after which she followed the very traditional path of Wall Street and private equity with a move to strategy and operations, right before having her first child. After fifteen years of working in the corporate world, she launched her first company Empower. Nangia now works with women entrepreneurs on their business plans as well as with charities and social enterprises on business development and restructuring.

Why the move from the high-flying world of finance and operations to sectors that are not as lucrative? 'I felt that the sectors that need the most help are the ones that are least serviced since they can’t afford to pay a lot. I wanted to start something that was affordable for my clients and I felt like I was using my skills for the right causes.'

'I grew up with a culture of working hard and giving back to the community. I now love what I do and am very glad I started Empower. It is very fulfilling since I work on a variety of exciting projects and meet people from all walks of life. I love networking and I have learned so much about Kensington & Chelsea and its people through what I do now. I wasn’t born in the UK, but was a Sloane ranger when I first moved to London twelve years ago and only now do I truly feel a part of the Kensington & Chelsea community.”

Outside of work, Deepali is a mother of two, treasurer of her daughter’s school and supports a few charities. She is very passionate about education and teaching children about Indian culture so she holds workshops for children on the weekends.

Deepali has recently started the Empowered Club, a network of women entrepreneurs which is less of networking but more of a knowledge-sharing group. We learn so much through our experiences and need to share them so others can learn from them.

In addition to all of the above, she spends her free time blogging under 'Diary of a Mumpreneur' where she can inspire others.

Some of Empower's past and current clients include an Indian charity, CRY UK, a local initiative, Your Credit Union, Kensington & Chelsea, NOVA New Opportunities and a variety of businesses ranging from retail to consumer services run by female entrepreneurs.

Nangia Deepali is currently working on another very exciting local initiative which she will tell us more about in good time. With charities Nangia aims to provide grant writing and business development services whilst focusing on ways to reduce costs.
